READ THE FORMAT BELOW:

  • Format:
    • 30 minutes of skills training followed by
    • 1-hour 4-on-4 game (with push-ups for bad habits!)
  • Accountability Rule:
      • 30 minutes focused on skill development, conditioning, battle skills and puck protection. 1-hour 4-on-4 game with push-ups when players lose focus and make mental mistakes.
      • Bad habits are as follows:

1 – not giving puck away, always control
2 – busting your butt to and from bench
3 – proper angling when fore-checking, always forcing to the boards; if you get beat on the inside, means bad angling, and you need to come in at more of an angle
4 – when backchecking and angling a player to the boards, if that player buttons (turns back) if the person chasing that player keeps going, that’s a bad habit. What the player should have done is button with the player right away. Act and react.
5 – missing the net. Focus on where you’re shooting
6 – staying at net after shot for rebound and not going for a big figure skate after shot: That’s 10 push-ups for the whole group
7 – work on defensive play. We play a 4 on 4 game and during that game if the coach sees 2 players chasing the same player. I stop the play and correct their positioning and defensive play. I.e., Proper stick and hand positioning, making sure they’re always on the defensive side.
8- Focus on control and making every pass count.

    • Passing to the wrong team or giving the puck away? 5 push-ups!
